In Isaiah 30, there was a group of people that God was not happy with. He said they made plans that were contrary to His, they created relationships with people that were not directed by His Spirit, and because of this they piled up their sins against Him. They did not seek God’s help for their problems, instead they went to an enemy camp and sought answers there. These people became annoyed with the men of God who preached His Word, and they wanted them to just stop telling them about what God wanted for their lives.
This is how the Lord replied to what had become of their lives:
“Because you despise what I tell you, And trust instead in cunning, crookedness, and perverseness, calamity will come upon you suddenly— like a bulging wall that bursts and falls. In an instant it will collapse and come crashing down.
You will be smashed like a piece of pottery— shattered so completely that there won’t be a piece big enough to carry coals from a fireplace or a little water from the well.”
These people despised the words of God and instead turned to lies and perverseness. Calamity seized them and their world came crashing down around them. How could anybody pick up the pieces of such a shattered life that they themselves created? The Lord told them specifically how:
“Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength…”
Our only hope of salvation is returning to the Lord and learning how to rest in Him. When we quiet all the sources the enemy is using to speak lies into our life and turn our trust to the Lord, we will finally have the strength to live the life He created us to live.
God, I made something so simple – so complicated. I took my frustrations and pain and turned away from You instead of to You. I tried to solve my problems by following the enemy’s plans for my life and it has left nothing but shattered pieces all around me. I don’t know how to fix this, but You do. I don’t want my life filled with the sorrow that comes from turning away from You. I want Your salvation for my life. I choose to return to You as You teach me how to rest in You and trust in Your will for my life. Please help me recognize the sources the enemy is using to speak lies into my life and help me strongly silence them once and for all! I choose to trust in You – right now and every day from this point forward.
